All too often a great photo opportunity is marred by a fizzle in lighting. Here are some ways to make sure the best input possible of lit subject matter hits the memory card. Find ways to alter camera setting, angle, and shutter speed to provide options.

1. Change the Lens Setting

It is a sad fact of light that some cameras have deficient light settings that work in some circumstances. You’ll start to notice when you get up close and personal with a camera that even though it is a counter intuitive to the directions you want to shift the dial to another lens setting to test what results you get.

2. Change the Angle

There is no rule in photography that your constant angle is the best one. Lighting settings onc ameras and the diffusion and shadows cast by light change as the angle to the lens, mirrors, and camera changes. Work the difference to grab the shot. Angling into the shot can sacrifice end to end resolution and create blur. But in the editing layer you can shave image degradation with skewing and attribute recalibration.

3. Strike a Pose

If your action setting doesn’t work or your best resolution lens setting doesn’t grab the detail at te right angle, ask your subject to move or arrange lightning and area items to suit. Good manners be damned, get the shot. make sure you make the most of your photo opportunities.

4. Tilt the camera in.

Use your crop and lens digital lens zoom to crack into the shot and find the sweet spot where the relative light setting changes. The effect can be stunning. The above image was taken from a few angles but kept getting overexposed. On the last zoom the interior light cast a luminescent glow over the mirrored pocket studs and bevels. The rainbow tungsten look  wasn’t found in any other shot, because the zoom dived under the shadow of the subject’s hip.
