Micro Mashups
Look at some of your plain or blank abstract pictures you think have no impact. Think about blending them. Either use paste at 20% or less density, or try to blend them horizontally or vertically. Two pictures send twice the message of one plain image, and the combined meaning can be unmistakeable. Composition can do this job sometimes, unless the items are so disparate they would never occur in “nature”.
But by now people are used to seeing things in print they would never see in nature. This builds an interior commentary that breaks over the consciousness of the observer. You can try to use the still life composition method above, but the results may not be as impactful as with edited images.
Work from the tags of the images. Match verbs or nouns. Look at abstract images like clocks or nostalgia images like childhood. these can be put ina special folder of your online low cost legal image gallery. This microstock market can be exploited for optimum return in areas where news is happening.
E.g., imagine pictures of pigs or “swine” with hypodermic needles and flu medicine superimposed together. Try this with someof your less imaginative images and see how stark the comment can be when employed for a message or implied comment. You have just added another microstock editing and composition possibility to your photography skill set.
