The perspective time gives many photographs makes a second life out of many photographs. The reconstruction that takes place when a third person perceives the dimensional statement of a picture can change everything. Such an example is the epoch making photo picture above, that of the late Diana, Princess of Wales on her wedding day. This image has been strongly engraved into the hearts and minds of tens if not hundreds of millions of people

The look that Lady Diana gives over her shoulder has been commented on and re-interpreted many times by many social commentators. Could Diana see the future? Was she taking a look backwards over her shoulder to a life she was leaving behind? Observers can see this, the woman on that day may not have had the same things in her mind.

Often the mind can work more quickly than the eye, both in taking the picture and in interpreting it. The image above can be seen by some merely as a woman looking to make sure her wedding dress is established. There’s no wrinkle in Diana’s future we can see on the day after this picture was taken. But  times changes perspective. Twenty years later there is much speculate upon, given the history of Lady Diana.

Review some of the pictures in your portfolio and compare the impact a changed perspective brings to their values and meaning. The second might offer some food for thought.
