Every vacation should have a few high quality cellphone or digital camera file images ready for real value adding editing and photo application treatment. Keep those public gallery folders lean and reserve your best stuff for the buying clientele. Since Facebook and social network sites tend to claim usage and rights, hold off on the mass submittal to your profile albums.
You never know when just a few micro shots can make a sitemaster’s day. Just a few tasteful images reflecting some of the character of the place can render some legal low cost image vending down the road. I’ve posted links here and urged microstockers to glean gigs online, but here is another example of a client bringing business to the savvy microstock gallery manager with an optimized portfolio of stock image files.
One of my favoritedomain bloggers started describing his effort toward a minisite and I submit the link here to inform micro stock photographers about an excellent way to cement value form their low cost legal image gallery sites and portfolio urls. I urge any photographer with a wealth of topic, location or genre stock shots to mount their portfolio (or pieces of it) online.
Thelink at Elliott’s blog itemizes the task to build a basic online presence. For the photographer with a series of well chosen, cropped and edited images this is an opportunity to laterally develop a professional sideline and deliver a photo-based image rich website. But this is a very commercial task list, not every microstocker pseudo-professional will need every step.
But developing a vending gallery online can make budding site masters groom their site making plans accordingly to the availability of quality images. This allows a potential webmaster to leapfrog over the hard work of scanning thousands of images and lets them buy a domain name with a plentitude of images driving their project plan and site goals.
The list of tasks should open the eyes of any photographer to the multitude of things a webmaster has to do. And Elliott is at the advanced level. Assuming “anyone” would have time deliver the pictures for their own sites is not reasoned thinking. Any time shortcut is a help. The micro stock photographer with a density of images on certain topics or locations or activities can upend the equation and work to fulfill the content or text requirements and have a website to use for referral purpsoes and new gig negotiations.
Here is yet another example of a webmaster making a website needing surgical images. Sure, Elliott could browse endlessly on Istockphoto or Bigstockphoto. But wouldn’t this be a nice window of opportunity for someone with Athens vacation shots? Athens is a big country with lots of nice hotels. Hotel shots are certainly something any traveler is going to have.
They could have been yours! By developing the marketing tools outlined in previous posts, your direct legal image vending can start as soon as your portfolio page and online gallery gets populated. Let the emails begin!
