Microstock ideas

The big money in microstock photography is resale of images because they are popular, or premium pricing of an image with such fabulous resolution, subject matter, opportunity value, or natural beauty the visual product is simply priced higher. But the portfolio of photography does not just hit both ends of the continuum.
The experimental shots, the ones that turned out well, the ones that surprise the photographer because how ever many times they view the album, they just know the picture taking process answered an unerring instinct. This is the nerve the microstock photgrapher should follow.
If you haven’t kept a tickler file chronicling those “rainy day” photography trek inspirations, borrow from this essay. Sometimes we can become focused on other things and then a beautiful photo capturing opportunity will pass you by. All you need is the camera, a pair of walking shoes, and some sunscreen.
Don’t be afraid to get personal with your shots. Sometimes the only way a great shot is born is if the photographer is so engrossed with qualities of the photograph they are thinking about, they miss the instinctive value behind the shot. Visual and abstract values can creep in, when all the photographer was doing was snapping at will.
the above shot was snapped because I was in a building with some stong architectural juju. I was snapping away and this was not even a photo destination. I just knew there was something “there”.
A lot of the shots came out blurry and disappointing because I wasn’t really composing decent images. But this one performed a briliant trick: it became another composition as the finished product. I had never worked with patterns, and this diamond shaped cross composition was square and linear.
